Wildfire prevention
We regularly inspect equipment and manage vegetation around power lines, poles and substations to reduce the chance of sparks or interference.
Advanced technology
Our expert teams use advanced situational awareness tools and technology to deliver your power safely in all weather.
System strengthening
Grid upgrades such as covered wires and fire-resistant poles help improve safety and reliability. Improvements are underway in Josephine County, Oregon, and in areas of northern California.
Enhanced safety settings
When wildfire risk increases, enhanced safety settings can automatically turn off power within fractions of a second if interference is detected on a line.
Public Safety Power Shutoff
During extreme wildfire risk, we may proactively turn off power – through a Public Safety Power Shutoff, or PSPS – in certain areas to help protect communities.
Emergency de-energization
When wildfires get too close to our equipment we will do an emergency de-energization, shutting off power to our lines to reduce wildfire risk.
